Two pivotal learning discussions were recently held to address critical challenges and opportunities in the Philippine energy sector. The sessions gathered members of the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC), with senior officials in attendance, underscoring the growing intersection between energy infrastructure, competition policy, and economic regulation in shaping the country’s energy transition.
The first presentation on “Offshore Wind and Connection Development,” offered a comprehensive overview of offshore wind development, covering everything from project planning, infrastructure, interconnection and decommissioning.
This session provided a deeper understanding of the logistical and regulatory groundwork necessary to make offshore wind a viable energy source for the Philippines.
The second session on “Philippine Transmission Grid Legal and Regulatory Framework” explored the complex legal and policy landscape that governs the country’s transmission grid—and how it affects progress.
The session emphasized the need for regulatory improvements to enable faster grid build out to achieve the country’s renewable energy targets.
The road ahead
Both learning sessions emphasised that unlocking the full potential of renewable energy and the acceleration of the energy transition in the Philippines requires addressing legal, regulatory, and technical barriers head-on. Towards this end, ClientEarth remains fully committed in supporting the country’s energy transition journey.
